ECON 371 American University Trumps Trade War

I’m working on a economics question and need guidance to help me learn.

After you watch the Frontline Documentary “Trump’s Trade War” please consider the following questions and respond with your thoughts?

(1) The documentary described those in Trump’s administration as “Globalists” or “Nationalists.”  How might this compare to the mercantilists versus economists like Adam Smith and David Ricardo in the late 1700s?  Do you believe that trade is a “zero sum game” as described in the documentary?

(2) The documentary described a new tension in competition for dominance of high-tech industries of tomorrow between the United States and China.  If you were a US policy-maker, how might you respond to China’s industrial policy and growing comparative advantage in sectors that the United States has traditionally dominated?
