Chapter 8 Topic- Black Economics Inside Job (Film) Each group member will conduct research, using the text and at least four supplementary scholarly sources (a total of 5 sources / 3 types). The group will combine, compare, and contrast the information and prepare a PowerPoint presentation. The presentation should 1) summarize the topic 2) emphasize key points, people, and places to remember 3) discuss ways the particular subject impacts African American people and their existence in American society 4) also discuss the history of the subject, related organizations, trends, and challenges. Each student must write a 5-page research paper on his/her area of specialty. The paper is NOT a group assignment. The student will upload the paper to an assigned TurnItIn slot and must receive an originality report of 13%, or less in order to receive credit for the work. Students will have several opportunities to revise the paper before the due date. Decide how to divide the topic. Consider the following points of interest: *History of the topic *clearly contextualized African-centered definition *major people, places, events, beliefs *understanding, application, developments *contemporary issues Be sure to cover anything that is unique to, and widely associated with your specific topic; also try to follow your subject through Black History and tell what caused it, as well as what its impact has been. The group prepares 1 collective PowerPoint presentation, made up of at least 5 slides from each member (ex: slides 1-5 from member 1, slides 6-10 from member 2, etc.; Place the name of the member on each of his/her slides and group each member’s slide together, without interruption of slides by other members.) The papers and PowerPoint presentations must be posted on the Monday (by midnight) of the week focused on the corresponding topic. No exceptions! Make sure your segment of the Powerpoint Presentation corresponds with your research paper. Please make sure the text in the presentation and the paper is grammatically correct and the images used visually relate to your topic. The paper must be in MLA format. You must use 5 scholarly sources, 3 different types, and have at least 5 cited references (one on each page). YOU CAN AND SHOULD VISIT THE WRITING LAB IN THE LIBRARY ON THE 4TH FLOOR FOR HELP WITH YOUR RESEARCH PAPER. Your paper will have to be uploaded to a TurnItIn slot which will be in the uppermost module on Moodle. When you submit the paper you will receive an originality report, and you can click on the percentage to view the report notes. The percentage of that report must be 13, or less in order to receive credit for the work. Your original draft is due the day the class covers your topic, but you are permitted to upload & delete the paper as many times as you need to in order to acheive the 13%, or less requirement. The final due date will be posted in a weekly module, later in the semester. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!
