1.The CNN commentator shares the views of some in the creative community fear that decisions like the one handed down on the Blurred Lines case will stifle creativity. Do you agree? Why or why not?
-As an individual, yes, I do agree that a blurred case will stifle creativity. Artists should not be coping work that belongs to someone else. Everyone should be creating their own work and be creative in their own ways. It is very important for us to encourage people to make new things instead of just copying something that a previous artist has done.
In your opinion, did Avril Levine infringe on the Rubinos copyright? Why or why not?
-I do agree that Avril Levine infringed on Rubinos because the songs were very similar and had the same rhythm, in that case it is considered coping.
In your opinion, did Sam Smith infringe on Tom Petty’s copyright? Why or why not?
-This situation is different. I do not agree that Sam Smith infringed on Tom Petty’s because the songs had different lyrics and were not the same. Even though the beat and the rhythm were similar but that does not mean that it is considered coping. Many artist still use the same beat to create music but with different words
In your opinion, does your opinion matter in these types of cases?
-I do not think that my personal opinion would matter. If there is a case where it is required evidence to prove which side is right and what side is wrong when it comes to copyright, then there must be a way to prove that through evidence. Public opinion does not matter
